Hello!
My name is Russell Murray and I am a Life Scout with Troop 38 in Concord, North Carolina. I am currently working on an Eagle Scout Project for the benefit of my high school’s marching band, the Hickory Ridge High School Blue Regiment. Please take a moment to read about my project, maybe share it with your friends, and consider supporting me and my fellow scouts and bandmates in this ambitious endeavor!
I have been a Scout almost as long as I can remember. I joined Pack 173 in Harrisburg as 1st grader Tiger Cub, crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 38 as a 5th grader, and have since participated in and achieved most every activity and rank available to Scouts. All of that experience has led me to here, pursuing the Eagle Scout Rank, the pinnacle of Scouting achievement. When I joined the HRHS Marching Band prior to my freshman year, I had no idea how tough band camp was going to be in the hot summer months. To make matters even worse, the field we practiced on was in terrible condition. There was no particular grass, the weeds were very large and clumpy, rocks were sticking out all over the place, and there were deep ruts from mowers and vehicles everywhere. As a band we were constantly tripping as we practiced our formations. This disaster of a field gave me the inspiration for my Eagle Scout Project……I have to resurface this field!
With the permission and assistance from our band director Mr. Chris White, and the guidance, expertise, professionalism and generosity from Carolina Green Corp of Indian Trail NC, my project is happening! We are going to completely resurface the practice field for the band. We have started by spraying weed killer on the existing field. The next step is to “top dress” the field with over 75 tons of sand to smooth out all the ruts. Then we come in with the equipment to plant Bermuda grass sprigs throughout the area. Then it’s up to me and my fellow scouts to keep it fertilized, watered, and mowed until the new turf has been established. The end result of this entire process will be a nice, smooth turf field that will greatly improve the quality and safety of our practice facility.
As you can see, there are many steps to the process, and this project isn’t cheap. We need donations, and fast! I need your help to make this project a reality.
In order to have the field ready by mid-August, the resurfacing is beginning now. Sand is being delivered, heavy equipment is rolling, sprigs are going in the ground. Carolina Green Corp has been kind enough to allow me some time to raise the funds, but WE NEED TO RAISE $6000 BY JULY 15TH. Any donation will be greatly appreciated, as it will benefit the Hickory Ridge High School’s Blue Regiment for years to come. And don’t forget, donations to this project can be tax deductible!
