Duncan & Alicia - Mount Kilimanjaro climb 2023
Donation protected
Dear friends
In January, my daughter Alicia & I are hoping to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 19,341 feet.
All the money raised will go to the Guy’s Cancer Charity. Guy's is where my Dad [Alicia’s Granddad] received most of his treatment before he passed last July.
Here's a link for more information about the charity:
Leaving the UK on the 10th of January, we start the 9 day climb on the 13th after acclimatising. It’s a 7½ day hike up and 1½ days down in a group of 4, plus our porters and guides.
We have been practising day-on-day walking of the peaks in the Lake District and the Peak District, including Scarfell Pike [choosing the more challenging 8 hour route]. Despite this, it is altitude sickness that could be our demise – something we can neither train for nor counter if we develop it, so fingers crossed we don't succumb.
We appreciate this comes at a time when we are all facing challenges to our wallets, but if you can find some loose change, please donate here.
