My dad succumbs when drunk driver runs red light
Donation protected
On the evening of November 14, 2021 in Stockton Ca; my dad, Ivan Thomas Trotter, (81) and his wife, (84) were two miles from their home when a stoned 25 year old, Juan Contreras Cabrera ran the stop sign driving in excess of 80 miles in a residential neighborhood. My dads vehicle was split in half. My stepmom was killed and my dad thrown fifteen feet from his vehicle and was laying in the street. The other part of his car, hit another house with children inside and thankfully they were not injured. Cabrera and his passenger fled the scene but were chased by witnesses and eventually arrested by police.
My dad suffered life threatening injuries and has undergone emergency surgery to save his life. He is bed ridden and has a trachea, feeding tube, is breathing with the use of a ventilator and has other non life threatening injuries. He will require months of treatment and rehabilitation; he will never be the same. Our family is devastated, he cannot speak and has been laying in the ICU since the accident unable to eat or do much of anything.
We did not learn of this tragedy for 17 days; my family was never notified by the Stockton Police Department or Highway Patrol. The hospital, San Joaquin County Hospital made no effort to notify us about horrific accident. After trying to reach my dad for a while, my nephew requested a welfare check on Thursday December 2, 2021 and 17 days after the accident we learned about this tragedy. We will be transporting him back to southern, CA where he can be treated further and get on the road to recovery. However, there are a multitude of expenses dealing with this entire ordeal and his insurance will not cover his needed rehabilitation hospitalization.

We flew down this afternoon and the first family members visited with him today. It was a tearful reunion. We will continue making the 7 hour drive until he is transferred. Anything, you can offer would be greatly appreciated to assist with our travel and lodging. I also have cash app- $trotter1913 and Apple Pay; [phone redacted]
