"Nobody is ever impoverished through the giving of charity." ~~ Maimonides
A Jewish family in Natanya, Israel, close to Rav Dror’s heart, is in great need of our help. The father of the family, who has been the main supporter, recently had a mental breakdown. He has lost his ability to care for his family, as he is not mentally fit to be working currently. Thank Gd he is functioning, but truly needs support from the community, as he heals. He is in treatment and getting all the help he can.
His wife and 2 older children have gone to work to try to make up for the lost income, and even the younger kids are babysitting to add up to having what they need to cover their great needs. While their extended family and neighbors are helping in any way possible, unfortunately - they are not able to cover their basic costs and the need is very pressing.
We are asking you to open your hearts and do a great mitzvah by doing Chesed (Acts of Loving Kindness) by this family and helping them cover their financial needs to avoid despair and further suffering.
"Who gives to the poor shall not lack." ~~ Proverbs (Mishle) 28:27
"Because of charity the world abides." ~~ Rashi
Tzedakah Means Righteousness
The Hebrew word for charity is tzedakah, which actually means “justice” or “righteousness.” There is an important nuance here. In Jewish thought, giving to people in need is not something extra; it’s just the correct, honest thing to do. Our money is not ours. It belongs to HaShem, who has graciously entrusted it to us. It is only right for us to distribute it as He wishes, sharing it with His needy children.
Tzedakah Brings the Redemption
“Keep justice and practice tzedakah, for My salvation is near to come, and My benevolence is to be revealed,” says the prophet Isaiah. From this, the sages teach that “great is tzedakah for it brings the redemption.”
Please help us help this good family in their difficult time, and let us be HaShem’s long arm in providing them with some ease and support when they already have so much on their plate.
