Hola!
I am Maria Angela (Mar) Talavera-Tejeda, a Peruvian freelance choreographer based in New York City. I am currently in my second year of the MFA in Dance program at Hunter College. As an artist dedicated to exploring nonverbal communication, ancestral and cultural memories, and the body as an archive, I am thrilled to announce my latest choreographic piece based on my research, "Maternal Archive: Inherited Fervor."
About:
"Maternal Archive: Inherited Fervor" is research that culminates in a 40-50-minute dance piece titled "Doves Do Not Fly at Night", which will premiere in March 2025 at Triskelion Arts Theater (Brooklyn, NY). This work delves into the nonverbal language expressed in the phenomenon of fervour experienced in ecstatic ritualistic practices. It explores dance as a visceral means of self-exploration and expression, unlocking the deepest layers of human experience through physicality.
Six dancers perform this piece, embodying the "need to be protected and saved" by an external, omnipresent, and punishing force. They become a mirror of human vulnerability to atone for guilt and achieve the unattainable.

Why I Need Your Support?
Creating a dance production of this scale requires significant resources. The creative process will be developed in 40 hours of rehearsal. Hence, your support will help cover the costs.
- Rehearsal Space: Renting space for rehearsals to develop and craft the choreography. (around $300)
- Venue: Renting fee to rent the theatre where the piece will be premiered. This includes at least three days of renting, including tech and dress rehearsal. (around $2000)
- Dancer Stipends: I aim to provide fair compensation for the dancers who collaborate with me, at a rate of $15 per hour.
- Costumes and Props: Designing and creating costumes and props that enhance the visual storytelling of the piece.
- Technical Production: Covering the costs of lighting, sound, and stage design to create an immersive experience for the audience.
- Photography and Film: Covering the costs of hiring a photographer and videographer to record the Show and obtain high-quality footage.
- Marketing and Promotion: Spreading the word ensures that this Production reaches a broad and diverse audience; this implies promo photography shooting.
