To say our family has been tested this year is an understatement. In the midst of our mom’s lung cancer diagnosis, our sister, Donna, who already battles with MS, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Those who truly know Donna, know that not only will she make you cry with laughter, but that she has a heart of gold. She is an amazing mother, daughter, sister, friend, and person. As I write this, there are truly no words to explain what a remarkable person she is.
As much as God has tested Donna, and thrown obstacles her way, she never ceases to amaze me with her resilience and perseverance. She has been knocked down many times, and yet she gets back up with grace, laughter, and the will to continue fighting.
As many of you (unfortunately) know, a cancer diagnosis means many, many bills to be paid. One could imagine the insurmountable bills that weigh heavily on her. Add into that equation Donna’s MS diagnosis, and bills that were already piling.
Sadly, unbeknownst to Donna, her workplace blind sided her, leaving her to pay much of this on her own. As she fights to save her life, medical bills should be the least of her worries.
Yet, even with these mountains that she climbs, her light continues to shine-- a true testament to her remarkable strength. She inspires us all everyday to be better, stronger, and happier.
Donna is proud, yet, I want to remind her that leaning on God means leaning on our loved ones. God shows his goodness through us, and it’s time for Donna to be reminded of this.
I want to alleviate all my sister’s pain and medical debt, but as Mother Teresa so beautifully pointed out, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” So, I need your help. Any amount matters- whether it’s $1 or $5, so Donna can focus on what truly matters - her health, healing, and her family.
Let’s show Donna the selflessness, kindness, and love that she has shown the world by proving that even in the darkest of times, light can be found.
