Support Cholera relief in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Oral re-hydration treatment for one Cholera patient costs costs 69 cents. A few dollars can go a long way.

Cholera in Sub-Saharan Africa

Cholera was eradicated from much of the developed world decades ago, yet it continues to take lives - many, many lives - every year in various part of Sub-Saharan Africa. Once there is a cholera outbreak (which typically happens during wet seasons), it spreads rapidly from household to household, damaging everything along its path.  Between August 2008 and April 2009, an estimated 96,591 were infected in Zimbabwe during a massive cholera outbreak; 4,201 deaths have been reported.

Providing treatment...quickly

In theory, Cholera is quite simple to tackle: it\'s a bacterial infection that when diagnosed early and treated with oral re-hydration therapy (OTH), can be eradicated with close to a 100% success. The plethora of medications available for the disease from commonly-used Tetracycline to Cotrimoxazole, Erythromycin, Doxycline can basically deal with every type of resistant strain to Cholera. The key is to treat it early.
