Cholera was
eradicated from much of the developed world decades ago, yet it continues to
take lives - many, many lives - every year in various part of Sub-Saharan
Africa. Once there is a cholera outbreak (which typically happens during wet
seasons), it spreads rapidly from household
to household, damaging everything along its path. Between
August 2008 and April 2009, an estimated 96,591 were infected in
Providing treatment...quickly
In theory, Cholera is quite simple to tackle: it\'s a bacterial infection that when diagnosed early and treated with oral re-hydration therapy (OTH), can be eradicated with close to a 100% success. The plethora of medications available for the disease from commonly-used Tetracycline to Cotrimoxazole, Erythromycin, Doxycline can basically deal with every type of resistant strain to Cholera. The key is to treat it early.
What are we raising money for?
We are raising money for a Cholera Relief Fund. Returns from the fund will be used to fund cholera relief year-after-year.
