Disaster Strikes the Vanessa & Dale Abraham Family
Donation protected
A life threatening medical event that struck a perfectly healthy Vanessa has instantly made the family face a devastating and life changing situation.
On March 28 Vanessa came down with what was thought to be the flu, but by Sunday the 31st she was in the hospital in intensive care where she remained for 4 weeks with a life threatening conditions that doctors couldn’t identify.
She was in 4 hospitals for nearly 2 months and the final diagnosis was that she became stricken with an unknown virus that attacked her brainstem and spinal cord which caused her to be put on life support, paralyzed and not have the ability to breathe on her own nor swallow, necessitating the insertion of a stomach tube for feeding then and now.
With Dale by her side for the entire 2 months, she has undergone over 15 procedures including a tracheotomy that has left her unable to swallow or speak and she still has the paralysis in her arms and neck.
Due to Insurance situations, Vanessa has been released to home where the situation is still intense and she faces a 12 month rehabilitation journey. Insurance has cut off funding for some much needed speech therapy and due to working for the school district there is no disability insurance.
Neither Dale (who is the primary caregiver for both Vanessa and 3 year old Makenzie) nor Vanessa has any source of income and will both be out of work for the near future as medical bills continue to pile up due to insurance limitations.
The situation is critical, Vanessa needs therapies, physical, occupational and speech. Any funding help for Dale and Vanessa to assist them through these very difficult times and this anticipated year long rehab would be greatly appreciated.
