• Non-Compete Agreements • Female Entrepreneurs • Greed • Fighting against unfair barriers
Introduction: I’m reaching out to support my friend, during a difficult time. She started a business in her hometown to support local jobs and help the community thrive. But 3 weeks after opening, she was facing a costly legal battle that threatens the future of her business and family home.
Background:
- Her previous employer closed the facility and exited the market.
- She was released from her non-compete agreement by her former employer.
- She asked her former employer if she could work for a direct competitor.
- Her former employer said they had no say in her future employment.
- After the release from her non-compete, and consulting with her attorney, she started a business to bring jobs back to their town and support her local economy.
However, after only 15 days of operations, she was sued by her previous employer, saying she breached her non-compete agreement that they released her from!!!
My friend knows of at least 6, MALE employees that have left this employer, began working for a competitor and did NOT obtain a release from their non-compete agreement and no lawsuit was filed against them. This employer is selectively enforcing (discriminating) their non-compete agreement.
Why This Matters: The legal battle is threatening her business’s survival. More importantly, it threatens the spirit of entrepreneurship, small, women-owned businesses and the livelihood of many hardworking people in her community. She is fighting for her business, her home that she used as collateral, and also for the jobs she's trying to sustain.
The Need: We are humbly asking for your support to help cover these legal fees and additional case expenses. Any donation, big or small, will make a difference. Your support will not only help her fight this legal battle, but it will also ensure that the jobs and economic contributions her business provides will continue to benefit their community.
Please Note: To avoid complicating the case, we can’t comment on the specifics of the lawsuit, as it could negatively affect the legal proceedings. This campaign can only focus on the financial side of things.
Please consider donating, sharing this campaign, or offering words of encouragement during this challenging time. We truly appreciate all your support.
Thank you for your generosity.
