Fulfilling DeLoyd Isbell's wish
My Dad is nearing the end of his life. He has not asked for much in his final wishes other than to be buried at the National Cemetary in Montevallo, Alabama. He was a sergeant with the The United States Airforce working on F-4 Phantom's during the Vietnam war. At the end of the war he was Honorably Discharged from George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA during downsizing. He then served as a member of the Adelanto California Police and Fire Department before moving back home to Alabama with his young wife and son, my older brother Russell. There he served as a Reserve Police officer. He later moved his larger family, there were now 3 kids, back to California with a promise of a better life financially and in the best intrest of health concerns for his oldest son, but Alabama was always his home in his heart. Once back in California he took night classes to get a better job to help provide a better life for his family. Upon completeion of his Electronics certificates from Victor Valley College he again served his Country as a Civilian Employee working with Electronic Communications for the United States Army at Fort Irwin. He would leave this job after 20 years when the contract changed hands and he was not rehired by the new company. Unfortuanelty he was unable to find work in the bad economy that followed and his life started to fall apart. He and my mother got divorced and over the last 5 years he has been trying to rebuild his life; he has fought with Blindness, mobility issues, income issues and other health complications. He has spent most of the last 5 months in the Hospital or an acute care facility. Any savings he had has been spent and he is living on the small amount that he recieves from Social Secruity. My Brother, Sister and I cannot afford to send him home for burial as estiamtes have been as high as $10,000-15,000. The Burial will be taken care of by the VA and he will recieve a Military Buruial. We have been in touch with some wonderful people in Alabama who have donated a casket for him, but we still need to pay for transportation to Alabama, Embalming of the body, and other final expenses that are not covered by the VA burial programs and do to lack of income he has been unable to provide Life Insurance for himself. Those of you who know my Dad know that the man would give the shirt off of his own back to help someone else, and those of you who know me know that I hate to ask for money for anything; but I am asking that if you can provide some money towards fulfilling his last request it would be extremely appreciated. This is a man who spent his life serving his Country and Community. All funds recieved will go to assist in fullfilling his final wishes. Any left over funds will be used to assist his children in going to the funeral in Alabama, as we all live in California. If there are funds left after that, they will be donated to a Veterans Service Program, like Friends of Veterans or the Nice Guy Society.
