Last year was incredibly rough for my wife, Julia and I. In February, we almost lost her to liver failure, resulting in her gallbladder needing to be removed on Valentine's Day. Shortly afterwards, she started to have renewed and worsening symptoms of what we now know to be postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome or P.O.T.S, a form of autonomic dysfunction. In 2015 she had started to get sick and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and anemia and after a few years the symptoms seemed to lessen.
After the surgery the illness came back with a vengeance. By April 2023 it was at the point where she faints with little to no warning, has trouble regulating her body temperature, sensitivity to light and further neurological complications. She now uses a walker or a cane most days.
We thought that once we had a better idea of what was causing the fainting, we could manage it and she could get use to a new normal. 2023, it seems had other plans.
She spent Christmas in the hospital because her bile duct was blocked again and it needed to be cleared and a stent put in. We also found out at that time that a "cyst" on one of her ovaries was actually a tumor.
During the procedure on January 4th 2024, they had to take her appendix, right ovary and fallopian tubes as well as the 10 cm tumor. We have the results back and everything is thankfully benign, but she is still recovering. We also just found out her company had not been taking her insurance out of her paycheck the past several weeks and now have to come up with an additional $200 to cover the missing income from the paycheck on February 9th.
It has been a rough go for her and she's been trying her hardest to stay employed during all this, and hopefully after her upcoming stent removal on the 23rd of February she can stay out the hospital for the next couple years. Also, by re-starting physical therapy after that she can buildup her stamina more. She used to walk everywhere and now can hardly make it up and down the stairs most somedays.
She was able to get the balances from both 2023 and this year and I have updated the amount to reflect the full total. We are just looking for a little assistance to get back on our feet while she finds her new normal and adjust to working 40 hours again. Any help you can provide, is greatly appreciated!
Oct 2 Update:
The past few months, and even the past few years, have been incredibly difficult for us. With Julia's growing list of health challenges and the constant strain on our finances, we’ve been pushed to the brink. Through it all, the love and support we've received from everyone has touched our hearts deeply and given us the strength to keep going.
We thought the storm might finally be passing after Maggie's sudden passing and the unexpected news of having to move. We hoped things would stabilize, giving us time to regain some sense of normalcy and improve our financial situation.
But that wasn’t to be. Last Friday, after years of battling to stay employed, Julia’s company terminated her position, throwing us back into uncertainty. Now we find ourselves relying on one income, with few options. I’m busier than ever with work, exhausted both physically and mentally, and struggling to keep up at home. Julia is doing what she can to recover and move forward, but I find myself feeling lost and powerless. I want to be there for her, to take care of her as best I can, but the weight of this uncertain future feels overwhelming.
Whatever support you can offer, whether it's just checking in or a kind word, means the world to us. We’re holding on to each other, but we feel uncertain about how to secure a stable home, take care of our little ones, and move forward without fear of what tomorrow might bring.
