David's Testicular Cancer Challenge 8kmX4hrsX24hrs

Donation protected
On the 9th of March 2020 I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. 29 years of age I never checked my balls regularly because I didn’t think the worst could happen to me, but it did. I was operated on straight away and fortunately enough my Cancer hadn’t spread to my lymph glands at the back of my abdomen, my chest or my neck. I count myself as one of the lucky ones who just by absolute chance late one Saturday night reached out to my local GP. To this day, I still don’t know why I picked up the phone. ‍

Gents, if you feel something untoward, don’t be embarrassed, please go get it checked out. You have nothing to lose.

I will always be eternally grateful to Ms. Liza McLornan and her Urology team in Connolly Hospital, the staff in The National Fertility Centre and Prof. Liam Grogan and the whole Oncology team in Beaumont Hospital who continue to look after me so well.

Words can’t describe how good they are on both a professional and personal level. Pandemic aside these heroes have never stopped looking after their patients and can sometimes be forgotten in light of Covid-19.

I am determined to get some good out of what was a tough couple of months and what better way then tapping in to my friends and family for some much-needed funds for the below charities;

- Blanchardstown Hospital Society

- Beaumont Hospital Foundation

- Rotunda IVF - The Rotunda Foundation

- The Irish Cancer Society

It’s no surprise the pandemic is having a real impact on Cancer treatment – operations postponed, less appointments and routine screens, and people just hesitant to go there GP.

In light of the above, myself and a couple of friends are rallying together to raise much needed awareness and step out of our comfort zones to test our own strength for a 24-hour challenge in April 2021.

Running 8 kilometres, every 4 hours, for 24 hours, starting Friday 9th April. ‍⏱⏰

No world records or PB’s will be broken but I would love if you can join and support us for a leg of the challenge by either walking, cycling or running.

Any donation no matter how big or small will go a long way to support these very worthy causes in their fight to save lives and improve the lives of people affected by Cancer in Ireland.

Thank You!
