"When Someone has Cancer, the whole family and everyone who loves them does, too."
My Name is David Flores Jr, and this is why I'm writing asking for assistance for my father David W. Flores, he was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 3 Esophagus Cancer in January 2016, that has since spread to his stomach, lymph nodes, and bones.
The backstory: My father has been a hardworking man his whole life, but the last 4 years have been as trying as anything. Only born with sight in 1 eye, everything he has had to do in life has been challenging, but he has persevered through it all. 4 years ago working for Johnson's Control in San Antonio, things didn't feel quite right. So after seeing numerous doctors, they determined the symptoms he was having were from having many mini-strokes. This cost him to lose partial vision in his only good eye and to have to go onto social security disability at the age of 54.
Along with not having the ability to work anymore they also declared him legally blind, which meant no more driver’s license. Now he had to rely on everyone else to drive him or take him where ever he needed to go. This was tough due to my father never asking anyone for anything and always lending his hand to everyone else.
Fast forward to the summer of 2015, back in his home state of Michigan, he and my mother moved away several years prior to the state of Texas due to my father being laid off of work after 32 years with the same company. So last year he was finally able to semi- move back after finding a 1 bedroom home next door to their best friends. See myself and my wife have a 5 year old son and a newborn, so their plans were to be "snow birds" and spend the winters with us here in Texas helping us out and hanging with their grandsons and the summers back in Michigan with their other grandson.
Diagnosis
That all changed last November, when my father stated he wasn't feeling too good, and was having a hard time swallowing, with insurance the way it is being on disability he said he will go to the doctor after the New Year. Then when he finally made the appointment after several checkups, tests, blood work, and scans they discovered a Malignant Tumor in the lower third of his esophagus. Unfortunately surgery was not an option since rehab is too extensive, so only option is to have chemotherapy, for what they told him the rest of his life!
So once again plans have changed and after having gone through chemotherapy every other week for the last 5 months, his last wish is to move back up to his home of Michigan and continue treatments and live as peacefully and relaxed as can be.
Your Donation:
My father doesn't know I am setting this up, but with the rising costs of his medical bills (including medicine and transportation cost), moving costs, and everyday living any assistance at this time is greatly appreciated.
My father has always been a generous, helpful, hardworking, and fun loving man, who rarely, if ever asked anyone for anything. So if I can just do this one thing to help him in this hard fought journey it is the least I can do to help repay my father and best friend.
Thank you.
