This fund has been created as a way to honor the memory of David Harold Porter. Countless people have been impacted by the life and legacy of the David and Jill Porter family and have asked how they can contribute. Consider this fund as a way to honor David, his sweet wife Jill, and their legacy of charity and selflessness.
David Harold Porter, born to Harold and Raeleen Porter, completed his earthly mission on August 13th, 2025. David was valiant and faithful until the end despite a decades long struggle with his health. Like from one of his favorite hymns, he remained courageous because he knew the Lord was on his side. He was the youngest of five children and grew up in Mesa, graduating from Westwood High School. He was a proud graduate from Arizona State University and could often be found under his favorite Sun Devils blanket or sporting an ASU ballcap. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and would fondly recount his time as a missionary in the Caracas, Venezuela mission. He served as a Bishop, Stake Clerk, Gospel Doctrine teacher and dedicated many years of his life to serving his fellow man. This service was feasible in large part because of the dedication and commitment of the woman behind the scenes. David always counseled his sons to “marry up” and his life was certainly blessed and enriched by heeding his own advice.
David and Jill Porter were married for 47 years, celebrating their anniversary on August 11th, 2025. Together they raised ten children — eight boys and two girls – a feat in and of itself.
In 2003, David began experiencing serious health challenges that made it extremely difficult for him to work. At that time, six of their children were still at home, the youngest only four years old. Without hesitation, Jill returned to night school, took a full-time healthcare job, and became David’s primary caregiver — all while raising their children and running the household.
For years, her days began before sunrise and ended long after sunset. She would get the kids off to school, work a full day, return home to prepare dinner, feed the family, and put the children to bed — day after day, without complaint.
For a time, David was on ‘at home hemodialysis’. For those unfamiliar, in patients with kidney failure dialysis is normally performed in a specialized clinic. In certain circumstances, a similar machine can be provided for home use. This meant that after returning from work, Jill would don her sterile gown and gloves and carefully clean David’s skin, then puncture his arm with two large needles to connect him to the dialysis machine. With his treatment underway, she would prepare dinner, run a quick errand, or perform other household chores. When his dialysis session was complete, she would again don her gown to carefully remove the needles from his arm.
Alongside her family responsibilities, Jill faithfully served in numerous church callings, devoting countless hours to helping others in her community. Her steadfast love for Christ, tireless devotion, and quiet acts of service became the foundation of both her family and the lives she touched.
On July 30th, 2025 David was hospitalized for an infection in his leg. After losing several fingers and toes to previous infections this occurrence was all too familiar. While preparing for surgery, David experienced unexpected complications. On August 9th, under the care of Hospice, he returned to the home where he and Jill had created such a beautiful life. David spent the next few days surrounded by his family, friends and comforting angels. On the morning of August 13th, he passed away at home, holding the hand of his beloved eternal companion, Jill.
Together, they built a legacy of never-ending love; “Always and forever… no matter what” as they would often repeat to each other. That legacy now includes more than 30 grandchildren.
After decades of faithful service, trial, hardship, and sacrifice, planning for any sort of life without working was nearly impossible. Though her work ethic and dedication have always been exemplary and unwavering, our goal is to ease any immediate financial strain after David’s sudden passing without having to return to work immediately.
We are grateful for every contribution, large or small. Each gift is a way of saying “thank you” to a couple who have enriched, influenced and blessed the lives of countless people.
