Baker, David Mutha Fuckin Baker, David Earl Baker, Sour Patch Kid, Brother, Sun, Babe/Love, All the crazy, special, funny ways this very unique and special person was referred to, is no longer with us, physically, in this world. He was taken from us in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. David has always had such a strong will, strong personality, always been such a strong individual who fought every single thing his entire life. He had to do everything the hard way, against the grain, upstream against the current. He was such a loving and caring person, he loved very deeply and was very protective of his friends and family, even of strangers who he seen in bad situations, even as a teenager, beating the crap out of a grown man who he saw abusing an 11 year old boy. Everyone knew not to mess with him, and if they did they were always sorry they did. He looked out for everyone, and has literally given the shirt off his back. He took in our sister Ginger, who is 44 years old and mentally disabled. He took full responsibility for her, always making sure she was okay, and helping her with certain things she was unable to do for herself. She is very high functioning, has been driving for more than 15 years, held down her longest job for 10 years, and has lived on her own for very many years as well. She was in a transition period, and David took it upon himself to help her become independent again. During the accident that took his life, David, ultimately trying to avoid the accident altogether, told Ginger, who was driving, to swerve left to avoid the oncoming vehicle driven by a drunk driver. I have absolute faith with the kind of driver David was, that he knew if they were not able to completely avoid the accident, that he would take the brunt of it, which is exactly how it played out, ultimately saving our sister's life. I know he couldn't live with himself if he had been the only one to survive. I thank God that we did not lose both of them. David was finally finding is place in life and accepting that everything didn't have to be a fight, that everything didn't have to be done the hard way. He found a woman who is absolutely amazing, who he loves very much, who he was planning a future with, with her and her daughter who is also a very special person. David moved around a lot, but he finally found his happy place, his home, where he loved and wanted to be forever, South Lake Tahoe, on the mountain, with the snow and the lake.
David was a royal pain in the ass, and at the same time, he deeply touched the hearts and the lives of so many people, He left undeniabley lasting impressions.
In David's death, he gave several people and their loved ones the gift of continued life; he was their miracle when they absolutely needed it most. The recipients of David's organs include a 14 year old girl who can now live a life free of dialysis, a 62 year old man, a 53 year old man who is married with 2 children, and a 66 year old man who is married with 3 children. So many people lose their lives while they wait, hoping to be next in line for these life saving transplants.
For any and everyone who has love for David, who's life he has touched, regardless of time or what may or may not have happened during any form of relationship with him; anyone who knows our family and wants to help, or even anyone who may not know us but finds it in their heart, if anyone truly and genuinely wants to do something to help, although it is never expected it would be extremely appreciated if you could help financially with all the expenses we are going to have to cover surrounding this tragedy.
Again, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to everyone who is reaching out, who is expressing their love and concern for David and our family.
David's sister,
Reola <3
