We started our journey to parenthood about two years ago in October 2019. We both agreed that it was time to grow our family from two cats to two or more children. We were both scared and excited about the adventures ahead. Dave and I had spoken for years about the perfect timeline for starting our family, discussing our hopes and dreams for what our family would be like, never knowing how hard the road we were facing would be. It was after about a year of trying to conceive unsuccessfully, that we decided to see doctors and find out what was wrong.

 

Unfortunately, what we learned was that we have been diagnosed as infertile. We also learned just how expensive fertility treatments can be. We have gotten multiple opinions from doctors at Reproductive Medicine and Associates (RMA), and the conclusion came out that we are most likely to get pregnant with IVF, which has a 65-70% chance of success for us. In even more heartbreaking news, we found our insurance does not cover any expenses towards IVF. We were told intrauterine insemination (IUI), which is covered by our insurance (after we meet our deductible), only has a 5% chance or less to produce a positive pregnancy, but that didn't stop us from trying.

Currently, we have undergone two unsuccessful IUI cycles, and one failed IVF cycle. The total out of pocket costs we have already exhausted is around $26,000. Our next step is to keep trying IUI until we can regain the funds for another IVF cycle.

Our doctor recommended that we look into a refund package program called CareShare, through RMA, which could give us more security but it costs an additional $32,000. At this point, Dave and I are feeling emotionally, physically, and financially exhausted.

 

We have been saving money and plan to run a fundraising event with friends and family to hopefully help raise additional funds. We are also reaching out to you, if you feel moved or inspired by our story to consider donating.
