Help Dave beat cancer!

My name is Elana. I'm the daughter of two selfless parents, Beth and Dave. As the daughter of a kindergarten teacher/nursing home coordinator and a social worker, I was raised to understand that everyone is deserving of respect, care and love. I was taught that there will always be someone there for you when you need it. Now that I so desperately need it, so I look to you.
My father Dave has been a social worker for over thirty-five years. He has fought tirelessly for those less fortunate who needed care and couldn't necessarily ask for or receive it. Since I was a child, he has been a constant advocate for mental health care and treatment for those in need, and has spent his life fighting insurance companies for the rights of the patients who so desperately need it. I'm so proud that both of my parents chose their love for people over their love of money, and have both dedicated their lives to careers that they knew would not make them financially wealthy. Our familys vast wealth lies in our love for each other and community.
Now, it's his turn to fight for himself. My dad was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer. He's dedicated himself to this new battle with the same vigor as his life's work, vowing to fight this into remission and erradication. Naturally (and painfully ironically), our American insurance and medical systems are stacked considerably against us. The cost to fight this treatment is going to be substantial for our family. Now our financial wealth, or lack of it, is a glaring reminder that no one is spared from the system.
Treatment is possible. Our family is going to stay optimistic, but we cannot fight this without help. We may be best friends or we may be strangers, but either way you've known the fantastic man that my father is. He's a helper, and now he needs help. I am forever greatful for all of yours.
