Dauby took to his role of Service Animal and performed his duties quite well. He is what the trainers referred to as bulletproof. He isn't easily startled, he is not afraid of anything, he knows his role and does not let anything sway him from his job. Unfortunately, just a few months after making it through his training Dauby developed cataracts in not one but both eyes.
The blindness has barely slowed him down but his ability to get around independantly is greatly diminished. He is fine in the house but, take him to someplace new he is at odds with his environment. He is a working dog that can't do his job. This is stressful for him - and has kind of made me his service animal instead of the other way around.
Being on disability I could not afford to act immediately to have him treated. Today we took him to a specialist and had a number of tests done to find out if he can be helped and to be sure he wasn't in any pain. Thankfully, he is not in any pain and there are two proccedures necessary on both eyes to restore his sight and provide some preventitive protection from a reoccurnace.
Any and all funds will be used specifically for, and only for, his medical needs and follow up meds which he will be on for several months, at least. Thank you for your assistance and generosity.
