It is so difficult to know what to say when your best friend is sick but sometimes just telling them you care is great place to start. I have known Darlene for many years and she is the first person to step forward and lend a hand to a friend in need. Now it is our turn to return the favor. As many of you know Darlene is facing her second battle with cancer. We are raising funds to help pay for medical bills and car repairs for our friend as she fights this battle. Darlene is currently in her last term of nursing school and is a single mother raising a beautiful daughter. Please join me in donating to Darlene's GoFundMe account to ensure that she is able to complete the last nine weeks of her nursing program and attain her dream of becoming a registered nurse.
The following is memo from Darlene on her current condition. On February 15, of 2014, I was told I might have colon cancer. On February 20, I was diagnosed. Then surgery was schedule for the end of March so I could complete the term I was in for nursing school. However, I developed some complication and had to make a trip to the emergency room on the Monday before the surgery where an NG tube was placed due to a blockage. Surgery was moved up to Tuesday and then was released that following Saturday.
In the next month of April, I had a porta catheter placed so I could begin my chemotherapy treatments. I had 12 scheduled. Which ran from April till September of 2014. On the 8th treatment, I had an allergic reaction to one of the chemotherapy drugs and had to stop that drug. I was able to complete all 12 treatments.
On my last trip to the doctor on April 27, 2015 I had a pet scan. On May 4, 2015 I received the results which showed some uptake to the right side area which means something is there again. Went to see another oncologist who specialized in ovary cancer were I was scheduled for a total hysterectomy on May 26, 2015. Meanwhile I was taken back to court on May 26, 2015, and the child support I received was reduced by over half. Then driving home from a friend’s house the Sunday May, 24, 2015 before the surgery, my transmission went out in my car. Unfortunately the surgeon found the mass to be malignant and I will be starting chemotherapy again this month. I appreciate your support and thank you ahead of time.
