Cancer…when you hear the word, an immediate feeling of terror runs through the very veins of your body. Nobody ever wants to receive that diagnosis, especially when you’re in the beginning stages of a family restoration.

On May 24, 2022, Daniel called me early in the morning. I could barely understand the words that he muttered. “You need to take me to the ER.” He had been throwing up since the night prior due to vertigo. As he attempted to get off of the couch and crawl across the floor, he immediately got sick. When I arrived to his home, I knew that I was going to need help so I called the paramedics. Not knowing how to get to the hospital, I followed them in my car and prayed the entire way there.

I stayed in the ER with Daniel for 6 hours as they did multiple tests on him. Before we knew it, he was immediately receiving a chest X-ray, bone biopsy, CT Scan (head), and lots of blood work. After several hours of being in the ER, it was determined that Daniel was going to be admitted and would stay at the hospital for 4 days. During his stay, we found out that he was severely anemic… but nothing else. It wasn’t until one week later that we received the news that he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer that’s usually found in elderly patients, not an individual in their 40’s.

The next several weeks were a whirlwind…lots of questions and lots of appointments. One of the biggest changes for our family was living under the same roof again. After 12 years of marriage, Daniel and I were separated for 5 years, and after years of counseling and irreconcilable differences, we were divorced in October 2021. A few weeks after our divorce was finalized, I went to a conference where I had a complete heart change. A stirring was happening inside of me. All of the bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness that I held onto began to slowly fade and leave my heart. I began to learn how to forgive Daniel and myself for major mistakes that caused deep seeping wounds. I was able to surrender over pain and where I used to fight against Daniel, I began to fight with him. The healing that was taking place inside of me began to pour into Daniel, and we were on our way to having our family restored. Fast-forward 8 months later, here we are facing a blood cancer diagnosis. Not only are we fighting for our family, but we are fighting for Daniel’s life and quickly drowning in medical expenses.

Daniel’s insurance didn’t cover the majority of his medical treatments and won’t cover future expenses. The treatment he is receiving costs $1200+/ week and is 2.5 hours away from where we currently reside. In the midst of this storm of trying to pay for every day living expenses and facing these new obstacles, I have been driving him back and forth to all of his appointments because he is unable. The income that I make at my current position along with what Daniel is receiving for his short term disability will not cover even one week of the treatments that he needs.  There is nothing more heartbreaking than watching our 8 year old son, Declan, lay his hand on Daniel while he is sleeping, praying for God to heal his daddy. Then having him come to me sobbing at the thought that his daddy might die. All the while knowing as I comfort him, that we need a miracle.

Knowing that we have a GIANT standing in front of us that we can not slay by our own might and power, we are humbly coming to ask you for your support and help to continue the restoration and healing that has been started in our family.
