Help Alimamy Achieve His Goal Of Studying Dance In Europe

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Alimamy Koroma, but my friends call me B.boy sky. I was born on October 10th, 2003 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Currently I am living and working in The Gambia.

I come from a family where poverty was a constant factor growing up as a kid with big dreams. Dance has been my passion since I was 8 years old, and now I have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take my talent to another level.

Recently, I was awarded a prestigious three year scholarship from the EuraAsia Dance
Project to study contemporary dance in Germany Hamburg (Contemporary Dance School Hamburg GmbH). Starting on the 1st of April, 2025. This scholarship is a dream come true, but I need your help to make it a reality.

A life shaped with hardship.
I grew up in Sierra Leone in a family that struggled everyday. My parents worked tirelessly to support my siblings and me, but life was not easy. My world turned upside down at the age of 14 years. I lost my dad in a car accident on a business trip trying to provide for us. And that news affected my mother who has hypertension. I was in school when I received the news of my dad. It really broke my heart to come home and see my dad laying dead and my mom was admitted to the hospital because of a heart attack. I couldn’t hold my tears and cried heavily with so much emotion and heartbreak for seeing my parents like that.

After this, life became more difficult. With no financial support, my siblings and I had to deal with lots of difficulties. My mother's health kept getting worse. I had to work to help her and I couldn’t further my education after my (WAEC) exam. During this hardship, I felt my life had become meaningless and my world was crashing. My dreams were transforming into empty visions with no hope.

I reached out for help, hoping for support to continue my education, but no one responded. With no hope of continuing my education, I devoted all my efforts to dancing because that’s my hobby and it makes me happy. I trained myself everyday to improve my skills. I worked hard and danced as much as I could, on the street, at wedding ceremonies, and birthday parties, all for free. I struggled for so many years just to survive. It wasn’t easy but my love and passion for dancing kept me going. It wasn’t just a hobby for me anymore. My passion turned into a purpose and became my escape, my hope and life devotion.

With time, I met some friends with the same purpose and love for dancing. We started training together and decided to form a group: Top class crew. In no time we became the best dancing group in Freetown, Sierra Leone. We won a lot of championships and really made a name for ourselves. Right now, our Top class crew consists of 22 members and I am one of the main choreographers and lead acrobat. Opportunities are rare for us in Africa, but with my team I had the chance to move to The Gambia, hopeful for better chances. And I have been living there ever since.

The journey is not easy, but we keep dancing as much as we can. In 2022 we won the Dance Gambia Championship. This success opened doors for me to work in the most visited show in the Gambia (Kings & Queens) and also work in a resort as a dancer (Oceanbay hotel). Dance not only allowed me to survive, but has also shown me that I can achieve so much more.

Why I need your help.
This scholarship is my chance to break the cycle of poverty and become the professional dancer I’ve always dreamed of being. Unfortunately, the scholarship only covers 30% of my tuition fees. To take this opportunity, I need to raise €14,300 by April 2025.

Here’s how the funds will be used:
• €11,000: to meet the European Union’s requirements, I must prove that I’m able to financially support myself. This money will be used to cover living expenses like rent, food, and transportation for my first year, since I am not allowed to work on a student visa for the first year. My plan after the first year is to immediately start working to cover the other costs for the second and third year myself.
• €600-700: Flights to Germany Hamburg.
• €500-600: Visa application and required documents.
• €2,000: First school payment to secure my spot.

So here I am humbling reaching out for your support through crowdfunding. I want nothing more than to transform my dream of becoming a professional dancer to reality. With your help, I believe we can make it happen. Every donation, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to my goal.

Thank you for believing in me and be part of my journey to write this new chapter in my life.

With love and gratitude,
Alimamy (B.boy sky).
