UPDATE:
Dan passed away at home, with his myself and his sister by his side - on Sunday, October 23, 2016, in the early morning hours. Dan will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, son, brother and friend. Although my heart is aching from the pain of losing Dan at such a young age, I take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain and in Heaven rejoicing, being at his "best".
Dan was truly, truly loved and now Dan will be truly, truly missed.

A Trip while we still can…
Hello Everyone, my name is Dan Dooley. I am a 3-time cancer survivor. This current round has me battling Stage IV metastatic colon cancer. I believe I still have a lot of time left in me, but the research indicates otherwise. Therefore, while I still can, I want to take a nice trip with my family to Lake Tahoe. This trip is the primary reason for my funds request.
Lake Tahoe was where my wife, Liz, and I honeymooned over 19 years ago. This time we could share our memories from the past and also what that area has to offer with my son and daughter. The area has so much to offer that everyone can find something fun to do. This will not be a lavish trip. We envision less than a week spent there in modest accommodations. We hope that funds will be collected to help offset the cost of this trip.
Any leftover funds will be used for “Dev’s Den”. This is a building project that my 13-year old son “Devin” and I hope to build (a hangout for friends to watch movies, play games, and provide camaraderie). Currently we are still in the fundraising phase. He has split firewood, raised a market lamb, sold personally-built survivor bracelets, and other odd jobs to raise money. This project will hopefully teach him life-long skills of carpentry and get time spent with his ‘ol Dad, but it goes deeper than that. In today’s world of instant-gratification where one can click a button and immediately be satisfied, this won’t occur. My son wants this building bad; but he needs to learn for himself that he will have to plan and save for this, then create the plans, file for permit, raise money, etc; a long process. Just because you want something doesn’t give you the right to have it, it must be earned. This is the bigger lesson for my son. I hope you will donate for this cause as well.
Lastly, as has been occurring since my first bout of bone cancer in 2005 we have a huge stack of medical bills. If the money has not been all spent on our Tahoe trip or “Dev’s Den”, then the money will go towards these bills.

Our family has been through many changes since our last post. Cancer is still in the forefront, just a few things have been added to our challenges.
Dan is still fighting his terminal metastatic, stage 4, colon cancer - which has spread to his spine, lungs and lymph nodes behind his sternum. And if this was not enough for us to tackle at this time, he was diagnosed with a skin cancer about a month ago. Although the dermatologist would like it removed, in the big picture of "life", our We oncologist said, "Let's just keep our eye on it".
We have had another health surprise in the family over the past year. Liz has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (no, this is NOT high blood pressure. More complicated!) A progressive lung and heart disease that is extremely rare and can not be taken care of locally, so she is going to Seattle, to be seen at the University of Washington Medical Center, where the Specialist is. With this being a progressive disease, chances are, a lung transplant will be in Liz's future. We are taking all our new information and change, the best we can.
