We're raising money for one of our young families who was living in 426 and lost everything. As reported, the couple and their infant were trapped in the rubble when 428 exploded.
It was beyond heartbreaking to listen as my neighbor, Jon, recounted with tears in his eyes what it was like for him and his family when the house next door to them exploded. They all happened to be in the living room at the front of the house and had just finished feeding their baby.
Jon was holding the baby when the house exploded. Instinctively, he shielded him as bricks came raining down. In the chaos, after they became trapped, he was able to begin pushing his way to the front of the house and although he was stuck, he yelled to the neighbors who were running over to help.
I will never forget hearing his cries as we were scrambling to safety of, "Help, Help! Someone help me! Please take my baby! Just take the baby!" Luckily, they were able to be rescued by neighbors and how no one was killed in all of this is beyond me.
Sadly, they learned today that it was unsafe to attempt to retrieve any of their personal belongings. Let's help them rebuild their lives and show them what being the City of Brotherly love is all about!
