Help Dale Rebuild His House from a Fire
Donation protected
Hi all, as most of you know, the beneficiary is my step-father, Dale Jones, husband to my late mother, Lynda Noyce Jones. Dale is not technical and I’ve set this up on his behalf. The funds will go to my account and I will help purchase the supplies and help him manage the rebuild project which will start in the Spring. GoFundMe has asked me to write this for transparency. You can also ask Dale the same.
We are pleading for support to help Dale Jones rebuild his house in Neyaashiinigmiing (Cape Croker), Ontario, Canada after a devastating fire on October 30, 2019.
2019 started out rough for our family, but Dale has endured the worst. All in one year Dale lost his leg, lost his wife, had a heart attack and emergency by-pass surgery and then lost his home with all of his belongings in a ravaging fire.
The year began with his wife, Lynda (nee Noyce) Jones, being hospitalized and receiving the news that her liver disease was progressing fast and that a transplant was not possible. After being sick for over 20 years between cancer, a stroke, lung and heart issues, and MS, this was the thing to bring her down. Dale had also injured his leg by dropping a load of wood on it and severed a vain. He didn’t realize the extent of the damage as he was occupied with Lynda’s health and care. When his toes started to turn dark, he went to get it looked at and received news of urgent surgery to try to reconnect the vein and a possible amputation. He had surgery in February 2019 which was successful, but it got further complicated when it ended up getting infected. He then crushed his foot in a car accident in March and, in April, his leg had to be amputated.
It took months to recover and it was really hard coming out of the dark hole, but he did and Dale made huge strides in his recovery and rehabilitation. He was off the pain killers really quickly and he was accredited as being ahead of his recovery and was walking with his prosthetic ahead of time - he said it was all his experience as an Iron worker that gave him that perfect balance. All while Dale was getting better, his wife was getting worse.
Dale built his home himself - he was an iron worker and carpenter by trade. Him and Lynda lived in their home for over 25 years and enjoyed many blessing during that time, including foster children and animal rescues. The house was off the grid and was outfitted with a windmill, solar panels, wood stove and propane appliances. Their eco-house was ahead of it's time.
During Dale’s amputation recovery, as the solar equipment was out of date and no longer strong enough to meet their needs, Lynda cashed in her life's savings and we worked on getting the house retrofitted so Dale and Lynda could live out the rest of their days comfortably. We replaced the solar panels, added new stronger batteries, a whole new power system, new appliances and new wood stove with a lot more capacity. Lynda was staying in Toronto and Brampton spending time with and getting care from family during most of Dale's recovery.
Lynda was home for only two weeks before she was admitted to the hospital and she passed away a few days later on July 16, 2019. It was a tough loss of his wife and partner of over 30 years and the mourning period was rough. Then two weeks later, Dale had a heart attack and was rushed in for emergency by-pass surgery. He spent 5 weeks in the hospital, all while being told he would have to have further surgery, but because of a previous chest surgery and his recent leg amputation, at the last minute, they opted not to do a further by-pass at that time and prescribed a heavy combo of meds and monitoring to see if any resolve.
Dale had been recovering from his already traumatic year when he received the worst news on October 30, 2019, that his house was completely engulfed in flames. There was no saving the house at this point and nothing in the end was left. All of his life's work and possessions, including all the last memories of Lynda gone, vanished and completely disintegrated. Dale is heartbroken beyond measure.
It was an accident and the fire crept in the chimney. Dale was not home when it happened and we’re thankful that no one was hurt. Unfortunately there was no insurance on the home and with Dale now being disabled, he is not able to do all the things he did before, plus hasn't had any income for most of the year. He needs our help to help him rebuild his house in the beautiful Neyaashiinigmiing so he can try to put some of the pieces of his life back together. Please, let's rally together as a family, a community and beyond to give Dale whatever support we can. Any donation helps, no amount is too small. Thanks for your support and please share widely.
