Jose Oscar Correa, my Dad, better known as Oscar is 54 years old and was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in 2011 due to N.A.S.H (Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis) also known as Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
One day after coming home from a long day of work, he wasn't feeling well so he went to lay back and woke from a nap to use the restroom, where we found him passed out on the floor after suffering from an upper gastro-intestinal bleed which almost cost him his life. After immediate surgery, to stop the bleeding, and a long stay in the hospital, he was sent home.
Liver cirrhosis is severe scarring of the liver which does not allow for proteins that are consumed to be filtered properly in the blood, these unfiltered/unprocessed proteins turn into toxins that move into the brain causing something called encephalopathy (which causes sever confusion and disorientation). Through the use of many medications this condition is controlled allowing his health to be stable.
However, almost 7 years after diagnosis, in Dec 2017, a mass was found in Dad's liver. After lots of medical exams, MRi, and blood tests he was diagnosed with HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma) or cancer of the liver. Now he is being treated to reduce the liver tumor while we wait for his new liver. Yes, you read this correct... Dad is getting a liver transplant! He is getting the chance to start fresh, but once the transplant match is found hes going to need lots of anti-rejection meds that are expensive and most will be paid out of pocket.
If we raise $2500 for his anti-rejection meds, Piedmont Hospital will match that amount or more up to $10,000 dollar-for-dollar. No donation is too small, all are appreciated. Thanks for your time and prayers for my dad!
