Help Our Dad Reclaim Life After Cancer & Amputation
Last year, our father retired at 67 and in perfect health—ready to spend his golden years doing what he loves: hunting, fishing, riding quads, fixing up anything with an engine, and most of all, playing with his grandkids. But shortly after, he noticed a small bump near his wrist. It didn’t seem like much at first. Starting in July he had several appointments with his PCP and got prescribed gout medication than steroids. Neither worked it kept getting bigger eventually the tumor grew up to his elbow.
On December 19th, he had a biopsy. We didn’t get the results/diagnosis until February 4th—and when we did, our world changed. He was diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer. Myxofibrosarcoma
From there, things moved quickly and painfully:
First surgery: They removed skin from his elbow to his wrist.
Weeks later: We learned it had spread to his hand—second surgery followed.
Post-surgery: He developed a MRSA infection and was hospitalized for five days.
Just 19 days later: We found out the cancer had reached his fingers and damaged nerves in his wrist, with a high possibility of losing function in a few fingers.
And at that time, he had to get his arm amputated.
Now he has check-ups regularly and appointments with a prosthetic doctor. Along with months of physical & occupational therpy.
Our father had to make the unthinkable decision: amputate his dominant arm to save his life.
He’s always been a “do-er”—hardworking, active, and constantly helping others. Losing his dominant arm has changed how he does everything: getting dressed, cooking, opening jars, even holding a fishing rod or tossing a ball to his grandkids. Even his bears hugs are different.
We are now raising funds to help get him a prosthetic arm—not just to help him with basic, everyday tasks, but also for modifications to make life easier and to give him a chance to live his life as fully as possible again. The kind of prosthetic he needs could cost around $25,000 or more. It's a staggering number for our family, especially after nearly a year.
But we are holding on to hope. While being so thankful to still have him here with us today.
Our dad is the most caring, humble, hardworking, and hilarious man we know. He never complains. He’s always been the one people turn to when something needs to get done. Now we’re turning to you—our community, friends, and even kind strangers—for help.
Your donation will go directly toward:
A functioning prosthetic arm
Follow-up care and therapy
Medical expenses not covered by insurance
Small modifications in his home to do basic life stuff. (mainly things to cook and help get dressed)
If you can give, we are incredibly grateful. If you can’t, please consider sharing this story. Every bit of support, every kind message, and every share helps lift us up during this time.
Thank you for loving and supporting our family through this.
With gratitude,
Diamond Family ❤️
