Dabo Family Fundraiser
Through the tender support of friends, teachers, and many more, we decided to create a GoFundMe to help our best friend, Fatima Dabo and her family reduce the current amounts of pressure, stress, and worry.

On November 2nd, 2020, Fatima’s mother, Aminata Dabo, suffered from a severe stroke and was taken to a hospital across the city from their home. Aminata is currently experiencing critical problems such as paralyzation of the left side, delirium, being in and out of consciousness and the inability to speak. Doctors have yet to discover which parts of her brain are affected as she is still going through many surgeries and diagnostics. While a full recovery is not guaranteed, the rehabilitation process will be a challenging and long journey.
Animata is a hard-working single mother of three children aged 13, 17, and 18. She is a caring, loving and jovial person who independently cares for all three of her children. Animata is a healthy 48-year-old individual who does not partake in smoking or drinking. For a stroke to happen to someone of her calibre is rare and unfortunate. Her release date from the ICU is unknown, and she will most likely be unable to work for months after that. They are distant from all other relatives; Animata is the only source of income for her family.
This heartbreaking incident has been putting her children through unimaginable amounts of anxiety as they have yet to visit her. Due to COVID restrictions, Animata has not seen her kids since the incident. Without their mother’s financial and mental support, her 18-year-old daughter, Fatima, has courageously cared for Karamo and Aicha and is fulfilling her university studies as a full-time student. Life has propelled her into a position where she suddenly has to learn how to manage the household expenses, which are overwhelmingly higher than she expected.
The government support that Animata’s family is eligible for is not covered long-term, and as we know, a stroke is not a disease that has a quick recovery. The Dabo family is already running out of funds for essential bills, and those will only increase once Aminata is ready for rehabilitation. Donations to the “Dabo Family Fundraiser” will contribute to their groceries, house bills, and potential medical/rehabilitation fees that the government cannot cover.
