She's 30!
As many of you may know, I am on my journey to pursing my Doctorate at Mills College in Educational Leadership.
For my birthday, I am asking anyone who is willing, to consider gifting me an opportunity to continue my education as the FIRST in my family to earn a Doctorate.
A product of OUSD throughout my K-12 education, I've leaned into programs such as TRIO: Upward Bound to help prepare me for my admission into Saint Mary's College, where I thrived and discovered my leadership style and passion. During my time at SMC, I've had the opportunity to spread my wings and be touched by many amazing themtors! I am forever grateful for my time there, and with the High Potential Program. A year later, I pursued my Masters in Education with an emphasis in Equity & Social Justice, and soon learned there is more in the world to conquer, such as a doctorate.
Born and raised in West Oakland, and growing up in a single-parent household, has influenced me to do more, be more, and grow more. We often read about hardships and struggles of low-income, first generation students navigating financial needs and eventually being trapped into private loans. I refused to be a federal profit.
Therefore, the 30 for 30 Challenge is contributing one dollar for every year of my life, towards my educational growth. Mills College does not offer summer grants or scholarships, nor Graduate Unsubsidized Loans, and I'm now facing a $10K bill to cover the cost by May 1st. Going into next Fall with as little student loan debt as possible would be all the birthday celebration I need.
