My name is Voris Forte', and I’m heartbroken to share the loss of my grandfather — affectionately known as Doddy. He wasn’t just my grandfather — he was my hero, my biggest supporter, and one of the most solid, loving men I’ve ever known. His wisdom, laughter, and strength left a lasting mark on everyone who had the blessing of knowing him.

My Grandpa Doddy just passed away Wednesday, July 30th to a heart attack at the age of 85… It was sudden and none of us were prepared for it… It hurts immensely, a pain that I was never prepared for, and the grief and loss of him encompasses my entire existence at times. To where I can’t even breathe or catch my balance. At times, we just collapse under the weight of it all… I miss him so much...

Why does losing those close to us hurt us this much?

He means So much to me!

And even though he has passed on, my love for him is present tense, and it will remain so for as long as I live, as long as breath is within my lungs and life is within my heart.

I would not be the man I am today without this man. He is the definition of a true loving family man and he has been nothing but a blessing and a pillar of inspiration in my life and everyone he has connected with and made a lasting and great impression upon.

To break down the acronyms of the various ways I have spelled his name out with attributes and adjectives describing his character. I will give you all a backstory of just how great and amazing this man was in this life that God gave him.

My Grandpa Doddy was a "Determined" man because he was someone who never gave up on anyone, especially family and close friends, and he was a hardworking man with discipline and balance, nobody needed to motivate him, he was the motivator for others and inspired many to be their best selves.

He was “Observant” because he was wise beyond his age, he had an old soul and could pick up on the important things, perceive both big and small, and he wasn’t afraid to communicate what he saw, what was significant to share. He always would say,

“Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth closed…”

Also, “Stay ready so you don’t gotta get ready…”

& “Sometimes you have to start from the bottom to climb your way up to the top…”

He was a “Delivered” and saved, God-fearing man, who was involved in the church and was married to my grandmother for more than 60 years. He was going to be 86 years old this year, born December 2nd 1939. For 43 years, he served for the County and City of Los Angeles doing public service work.

He was a wonderful “Dad” to his 2 Daughters. And His wife, (my grandmother) and his grandson, and his two great-grandchildren succeed him and carry on his legacy. His Donaldson bloodline will forever live on through his great-grandsons Zamir and Jamir.

He was “Youthful” beyond measure, so full of life and good, positive energy. He truly had so much more life, love and wisdom to give, and I’m so grateful to have had him in my life and to learn all that I have from him. Even now, I’m trying to grasp and remember all the life quotes, and profound gems of knowledge he passed down to me, so that I can hold it close to my heart and impart that same knowledge down to my children and their children.
