Book Drive for Don Julian Elementary
Donation protected
Don Julian Elementary School neighbors our church, Evergreen Baptist Church of SGV. We learned that the majority of the students come from low-income Hispanic households where many of the students walk to school or enroll only for short seasons due to migrant jobs. Many families do not own home libraries or have time to go to the public library. So even though we found the students eager to read, we were concerned about the loss of progress due to their limited access to quality books.
Therefore, our goal is to put a brand new book in the hands of each returning student at the start of the new school year, beginning of Aug! Last year, we were able to raise enough money to purchase over 550 books for all the students. This was made possible by the generosity of Evergreen SGV members and by the 50% match from the children's book publisher, Usborne Books & More ! We are looking forward to doing it again this year! Thank you in advance for your generosity!
It was so heartwarming to see the little kids get excited about the books and hug them tightly to their chests as they left with their new books. It is our desire that each of these kids know that these books are given to them out of love for Christ. May their own love for reading and for the Lord increase!
