Support for Cyndie Basford during this tragic time
My stepfather, Michael Basford, was admitted to the hospital in November of 2020 after being diagnosed with Covid. Michael went downhill very quickly mid November and had to be intubated and hooked up to a ventilator. Overtime his body became stronger and he was transported to the Cleveland Clinic to prepare to become strong enough to be placed on the lung transplant list. Things were going very well until suddenly 3 weeks ago his vitals crashed and life saving measures had to be preformed. Michael is currently suffering from bacterial pneumonia, kidney failure and liver failure. He is hooked up to many machines including an ECMO machine and the ventilator. Somedays he is slightly coherent and able to interact with hospital staff and my mother, his wife, Cyndie. Other days are not so good. The decision was relayed to my mother, Cyndie, this week that Michael will not be eligible for a lung transplant because his body is just to sick. The doctors at this point state that decisions will have to be made about the life sustaining machines currently keeping Michael alive. Michaels wishes were that if he ever was in this position he did not wish to live a life only attainable through medical machines. The horrible decision will have to be made by my mother Cydie this week, as to when to terminate his life support. Michael will leave behind his wife of 16 years, Cyndie. Three children, two step children, his mother, many sisters, many friends and the most recent joy in his life, his grandson Mason.
My mother will be incurring the cost of some medical bills, after life costs, and taking on the entire brunt of the bills of the household while dealing with this tragedy. My goal is to raise enough money to cover the costs of any medical bills my mother may be subjected to, and to relieve some burden financially while she tries to navigate this horrible situation.
Michael loves The Browns, traveling (especially to florida to visit his dear friends Gary and Maryanne Hoffman), playing pool, playing golf and enjoying a cold yuengling. Michael is also very proud of his time he spent in the US NAVY.Michael also deeply loves the newest addition to our family, Mason, and looked forward to watching him grow up. The love between Michael and Mason was mutual; he loves his ‘pawpaw’ very much. Michael will be dearly missed by everyone that knew him and his memory will live on in all of our hearts.
Michael is one of many lost to this horrible pandemic.
