Ease the burden for Chad & Kayla during this time of crisis

Donation protected

My name is Kim Scarberry and I am organizing this GoFundMe as a means to support a family that is near and dear to me during a time of stress and uncertainty in their life.

As many of you know, Braxton and Weston were involved in a horrific accident on Route 7 in Ohio on 8/01/2025. Both boys are in critical condition and have been flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Their parents, Chad and Kayla Cremeans, will be relocating to Columbus for the forseeable future while the boys are receiving care. This is expected to be a lengthy recovery.

Many people have reached out asking how they can support the family during this time and right now, I think the best course of action is to help alleviate the financial strain that inevitably comes at a time like this. Chad and Kayla will both be off work to be with Braxton and Weston as they receive medical care 3 hours away from home.

Their world has been turned upside down and bills are the last thing they need to worry about during a time like this.

Please do not feel obligated to donate, but should you feel led to, it is much appreciated.

If you are unable to support financially, your prayers for a miracle are appreciated just as much!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I will provide updates from the family as I can.

update as of 8/2/25 9am from Chad’s sister:

Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the calls, texts and prayers. I thought it would be easiest to update here in one spot. Braxton and Weston were both flown out to Nationwide Children’s in Columbus. Braxton made it late evening yesterday. Weston was not stable enough to be flown out until several hours later. My brother was able to fly with him and they made it around 2:30 this morning. Sometime today Braxton will be having surgery to fix compound fractures in both legs. They said they would worry about his facial reconstruction at a later time. Weston has had some testing and waiting for more. We need a miracle. Our hearts are shattered. Please continue to pray. Thank you for all of the support.

Update 8/3 @2pm:
Braxton did well with his bilateral broken femur repairs. He has that tear in his carotid artery that puts him at risk for a stroke. He also has a fracture at the base of his skull causing cerebral spinal fluid to leak from his nose and eyes. The neurosurgeon hopes it will resolve on his own. After that issue is taken care of they can begin facial reconstruction.

Weston still needs his miracle.

Update 8/4 1:20pm

After the teams rounded this morning they said they are going to try to extubate Brax tomorrow. He is responding well during his neuro checks. He has some swelling in his belly. After a few exams yesterday they think it is fluid. However, they started him on Heparin because of the issue with his carotid artery putting him at risk for stroke. Joseph said he was able to nod his head each time they asked him about his pain this morning. The CSF thst was draining from his eyes and nose has significantly slowed. Tomorrow is his 10th birthday and they had planned to surprise him with a celebration at Dollywood.

Weston still needs a miracle. He will have extensive testing on his little brain over the next couple of days.

We’re so thankful for all of the first responders that helped on the scene and getting them to the hospital. The emergency room staff and trauma team at Cabell Huntington Hospital were amazing and the boys couldn’t have made it this far without them. Thank you to the PICU staff at Cabell for getting Weston stable enough to be flown to Nationwide Childrens Hospital a few hours after his big brother. The level of care here at Nationwide is the most insane level of care I have ever witnessed. We’re just so thankful they are here. The teamwork is amazing to witness.

We hope you know the concern, calls, texts, messages, visits, deliveries, donations and most importantly your prayers are appreciated! Our family has been overwhelmed with the love and support. Thank you could never be enough.

Both boys received a heavy stack of cards that were just delivered.

Update 8/6 1:15pm

They were not able to extubate Braxton yesterday. Today they are taking his fentanyl back down to 75. They think hes a little too sedated, but if he seems to be in pain they will get it under control. They changed his neuro checks to every 2 hours instead of every hour. They are changing some meds around and hoping that it helps with his ph level in his urine because somehow it can affect his breathing which may have been why he didn’t do the best on the trial period of being off the vent and they are happy he was able to have a bowel movement to show everything in that area is working like it should. He will be going to interventional radiology concerning his carotid artery.

Weston will be having another test on his brain later this afternoon.

Update 8/11
update on my nephews (from Chad’s sister)

A lot has happened since the last update. Some of it our family has needed time to process and tell other family back home.

They have discovered that Braxton has two torn carotid arteries. The one they originally knew about has gotten wose instead of better. On Thursday they will be placing a stent in those. In the meantime they have had to stop his heparin to prepare him for that surgery. He also had a surgery to get a G-tube and he’s dealing with some side effects from that. He has been awake quite a bit but he is in so much pain. His nurses work hard to try to keep him pain free.

On Thursday Chad, Kayla and family met with the team of doctors to discuss Weston’s test results. Our hearts were shattered at the news that he doesn’t show any brain activity. Chad and Kayla made the decision for Weston to become an organ donor. Lifeline of Ohio met with us later that afternoon. They told us that Weston’s gifts can potentially save up to 8 lives of other children. We’re crushed that Weston didn’t get his miracle, but I just keep thinking about how 8 kids get to LIVE because of the selfless decision my brother and sister in law have made. We’re going to spend the day together with the boys and tonight Weston’s family and family friends will line the hallway of the hospital for an Honor walk for Weston. Our little blonde haired, magic eyed baby is a real life HERO. #donatelife
