The Cozy Catfe Cruiser: A Mobile Cat Lounge Experience

Who am I?

Hi, I’m Briana, an animal lover and long-time volunteer at The Cozy Catfe Rescue, a nonprofit cat café in Arlington, Texas that has helped over 420 cats find their forever homes. I’ve spent years fostering, volunteering, and supporting animal rescue, and I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when people connect with adoptable cats outside of a shelter setting.

Our small but passionate team is made up of fellow rescue volunteers, animal care specialists, and community supporters who all share the same mission: creating joyful, stress-free environments where people and cats can connect.

What am I planning to make?

We’re building a fully mobile cat lounge — think of it as a cozy, climate-controlled cat café on wheels! This traveling lounge will bring adoptable cats to community events, campuses, businesses, and neighborhoods across the Dallas–Fort Worth area.

Inside, you’ll find:

Comfortable seating for visitors

A safe, enriching play space for cats

Climate control (A/C & heat) for Texas weather

An ADA-compliant layout with a safety entry gate

A small “cat break room” where the kitties can rest if they need a break

Our vision is to make the experience not just unique, but welcoming and relaxing — pairing purring cats with comfy chairs, books, and even coffee partners at events.

Where did this project come from?

The idea came to me while volunteering at The Cozy Catfe. I saw how many people fell in love with cats when they met them in a relaxed environment, but not everyone can visit a café. What if we could bring the cats to the people?

So far, I’ve been researching layouts, sketching floor plans, and speaking with local rescues, event organizers, and even city officials about the permits and regulations needed. I’ve also consulted with other mobile animal programs across the U.S. to learn best practices.

What’s the plan, and what’s the schedule?

Here’s our timeline:

Month 1–2: Finalize trailer/bus purchase and begin build-out with professional contractors.

Month 3–4: Install climate control, flooring, cat-safe play structures, and ADA features.

Month 5: Safety inspections, permits, and trial runs.

Month 6: Launch our first official event with The Cozy Catfe Rescue and start touring DFW!

What’s our budget?

Here’s a simple breakdown of our estimated startup costs:

Vehicle (bus or trailer conversion): $20,000–$25,000

Build-out & renovations: $10,000

Climate control system: $5,000

Cat enclosures, furniture & play structures: $3,000

Licensing, permits, and insurance: $2,000

Initial supplies (cleaning, bedding, signage): $2,000

Total goal: $42,000

Why do you care?

Cats saved my life in more ways than one. Volunteering with rescues taught me the healing power of animal companionship, and I’ve seen countless families light up when they meet their future pet in a comfortable, loving space. This project isn’t just about creating a fun experience — it’s about saving lives. Every time our mobile lounge goes out, it’s another chance for a shelter cat to find their forever home.

With your support, we can make this dream real: a traveling sanctuary that brings the joy of cats to people everywhere while helping homeless cats find love and safety.
