Cortney is a very active 26 year old. One of her main hobbies is running and training for various races. However, a couple of months ago, she started experiencing some intense back and shoulder pain. After going to the Doctor on June 29th, she was misdiagnosed with a ruptured disc in her back and sent home to recover. By that Sunday, her pain had not subsided any at all and we had to take a trip to the E.R., where we found out she had an almost two foot long blood clot in her left arm, which was why her back and shoulder was in so much pain. After being sent home with some blood thinners, she was then called back to the ER the next morning. There was something abnormal in her X-ray. After a CT Scan, she discovered she had a grapefruit sized mass sitting under her breastbone, which was pinching her blood vessel causing the clot. After a couple of weeks of waiting, she was FINALLY referred to Duke Medical Center, where she was scheduled for a biopsy of the mass in her chest. On August 4, a little over a month from her ER trip, Cortney got the results from the biopsy: she tested positive for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. 
Although at this point we do not yet know what stage the cancer is at or what treatment she will need, we do know that she has a long road in front of her. The funds from any donations will help offset the cost of her treatments, as well as help her family be able to come be with her during her treatments.
