Help Fishing Guides Survive the Coronavirus

COVID-19 is impacting every kind of business in every corner of the globe. As you might imagine, most fishing guides are unable to work right now due to the social distancing measures in place in nearly every state. There is a great deal of concern within the fishing industry that many guides won’t economically survive the effects of the current crisis. Customers are canceling trips in droves. To make matters worse, in many parts of the country, this is the start of peak season. Considering the fact that most guides are self-employed, they don’t have much to fall back on. And this situation could go on for months to come, thus wiping out much, if not all the season.
Which is why I created the Coronavirus Fishing Guide Fund. Money from this fund will provide much-needed support for guides who have been impacted by mass cancellations and loss of income caused by the Coronavirus situation. For me, this is personal. Being a frequent consumer of guide services around the country, it’s heartbreaking to think that these good-natured, patient people who dedicate their lives to our happiness and success on the water may not be able to continue to do what they love.
Immediate Impact
The Coronavirus Fishing Guide Fund was born out of a passion project. I’ve been considering starting a podcast in the fishing industry to help educate anglers on fishing opportunities around the country. With the onset of the Coronavirus situation, my thinking changed. Guides need help now and a podcast is an ideal way to generate awareness for the Go Fund Me campaign. So, guides and experts who appear on my podcast, The Destination Angler, will receive the funds from the campaign. What’s more, I will be splitting the profits from any ad sales with the guides who appear on the show during the Coronavirus crisis.
