Hi, my name is Corky, and I’m 70 years old. After 8 years of being unable to walk, I finally stood on my own again — only to have my knee fail me once more. Now, I need help to keep going. My Story:

Ten years ago, I had knee surgery. During recovery, a dog accidentally knocked me over. The fall led to a serious infection in my leg. Despite multiple antibiotics and hospital treatments, I spent nearly a year stuck in a recliner, and eventually, I lost the ability to walk altogether. Thanks to a holistic doctor, the infection was finally cleared — but my mobility was gone. For 8 years, I couldn’t walk. I was isolated, in constant pain, and struggling mentally and emotionally. Then in January 2024, a miracle happened. I joined a virtual support group started by my therapist, called the Soul Empowerment Community, and for the first time in years, I had hope. With their help and emotional support, I was able to walk behind a shopping basket — and soon, I was walking again. My heart came alive. But everything changed again. My left knee suddenly gave out. The medical cement from a past knee replacement has come loose, and now I can’t walk again. I need my 4th full knee replacement — and I’m scared. What I’m Facing Now:    •    I live alone and can’t walk without assistance •    

My rent has increased, and I can’t keep up  My electricity, gas, and food are at risk .

Medicare and Medicaid won’t cover the full cost of my surgery, equipment, or therapy .  My food stamps were reduced, and Texas is cutting benefits for seniors .

I can’t afford the Soul Empowerment group that helped save my life.

Most of all, I feel isolated, without the community that helped me come back to life All I want is to walk again, to keep my home, and to stay connected to the people who helped me heal.
