Help Rebuild Corail

Many of you are watching with heavy hearts as the photos and reporting from Hurricane Matthew in Haiti detail mass devastation. For me, however, these are are not pictures of some foreign place far away. These are pictures of my home town, Corail, and other nearby towns where my relatives live in the south west region of Haiti.
My name is Felix Papillon, I'm a Haitian professional living in the Washington, DC area, and I can no longer stand by and feel helpless while news from my family describes total devastation in communities that were already far, far too impoverished to withstand this shock. Unlike past natural disasters in Haiti, Hurricane Matthew struck a region is isolated and more underdeveloped than other parts of the country. Few homes remain standing. Crops have been destroyed. What roads existed have been washed away. And many, many lives were lost.
With the network I have in Corail, and the experience and contacts my wife has from working in Haiti post-Earthquake, we are gathering donations to help this beautiful seaside village, Corail, rebuild. These are early days, so it is difficult to be precise about which project I will focus resources on, but my plan is to work with my brother, a resident of Corail, former non-profit manager, small business owner, and now a public servant, to work with the community and local government to provide Corail residents with rehabilitated small infrastructure. My hope is to help the families most in needs, those without relatives in the diaspora that can come to the rescue. Housing is at the top of my list, but other infrastructure like the market place, schools, or even a soccer pitch for families to enjoy will be critical to recovery. I plan to work either with a local organization and/or local business to carry out this work for the benefit of the community of Corail. As I gain additional details on needs, local partners, I will update this page. I'm in communication with my brother, but as you can imagine he is seized by very urgent needs.
