Hello to everyone my story reaches and thank you for your time reading my very unique story.
I was diagnosed with Fibrosing Mediastinitis in 2020 after seeking help from multiple doctors in the Denver area. My case had to be referred to an alternate medical center due to University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Center not having the necessary staff to provide the care I would need. I made the move to the Greater Los Angeles area and settled in Newbury Park, Ventura County, CA after having an extended stay at Cedars Sinai Medical Center to receive a double lung and heart transplant on January 19th, 2024. I made a reasonably speedy recovery despite my physical bodily trauma. On August 16th, 2024, I received an additional kidney due to being on Continual Renal Therapy for too long in January, which ultimately permanently shut down my kidneys and placed me on dialysis temporarily until a new kidney was placed.
Around September or October, I was notified as a protocol that another recipient from the first transplant operation acquired cancer. Preliminary testing showed nothing on my end and I was cleared. Fast forward to January 14, 2025, five days shy of being one year post-operation for a new heart and lungs, I made a visit to Cedars Sinai's emergency department as a protocol to feeling slightly ill. We found out I had acquired Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a contagious virus that infects the respiratory tract. While admitted, blood work showed abnormal anomalies occurring and I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and will undergo chemotherapy to knock down cancer cell levels followed by immunotherapy to finally clear out the cancer cells. Cedars Sinai will be using a relatively new treatment, Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell therapy to use my own T-cell (immune cells) that will be genetically modified to recognize and combat future attacking cancer cells by adding a special receptor. Blood transfusions will be involved since chemotherapy will reduce my red blood counts and discussion of a bone marrow transplant during my recovery phase.
I started going back to work before the holiday season and took on seasonal work at a local retail store to get used to standing around and running around all day. I was asked to stay on staff prior to returning to the hospital and currently I will not be able to attend any job for the foreseeable future until I'm cleared by my medical teams.
I'm kindly asking for donations as my income was reduced yet again so that I can continue to knock down debts accrued between transplants and new debts that will be added due to ALL. If you can't, helping spread my unfortunate story to family, friends, and colleagues or other cancer survivors would be a great help and if you know of any grants that assist in these hardships nationally and in the state of California, please contact me at the link provided by GoFundMe.
