UPDATE: Hey everyone! I wanted to share an update on Brandon and the information from his most recent visit to Johns Hopkins. To start, we are so thankful and grateful for everyone’s kind words and prayers being sent our way. Every phone call and text message is very much appreciated. With so many appointments and updates coming and so quickly, I just want to request that all of the text and calls directly after his appointments hold off for an update here. It is very important to Brandon to keep everyone updated, but it is becoming very overwhelming on the day of, and days after his appointments. We will absolutely update Facebook once we get back home and settled in. These long trips each week are exhausting for us both and I would like to keep them as stress free for him as possible! Thank you so much for the outreach of concern and support for Brandon and our family, I hope this makes this easier for us all.
With that being said…today we met with the Radiation Oncologist at Johns Hopkins and received more information regarding the next steps. At this time, the Neurosurgeon has taken surgery off the table due to the extreme risk (almost a guarantee) of losing one or more important function of his daily life (vision, hearing, motor skills, memory, etc.). The Radiation Oncologist requested Brandon get a cerebral angiogram, this procedure is similar to the angiogram at Norfolk General but is more detailed and provides a more clear picture of the blood vessels and flow to and in his brain. He will also be getting a CT scan at this appointment. Scheduling for this procedure will hopefully take place within the next week or so and will require a longer stay in Baltimore.
These tests will provide the Neurosurgeon and Radiation Oncologist with the information needed as they work together to construct a blueprint of his AVM and develop a precise plan and strategy to start shrinking it with radiation. There will be (at least) 2 more trips to Baltimore after this procedure before his radiation will begin.
The high doses of concentrated radiation has its risks, but those risks are much lower than surgery itself due to the size and location of his AVM. It is possible for multiple doses of radiation to dissolve the AVM and surgery in the future depending on how well the radiation works. We are praying for embolization after the first dose
I think that tells everything we know at this point and promise to continue updating here as we get information. Thank you again to everyone who has supported us through this time. We are truly grateful and love you all!

Not sure how many of you know Brandon Painter, but for those of you who don’t, he is an incredibly talented contractor in Hampton Roads, who specializes in Tile work. He is always going out of his way for each of us personally or our clients, and is just the sweetest guy, so I’m posting here to see if we, as a community, can come together for him as he is battling a new normal. Brandon was recently diagnosed with Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM), and he will need to undergo procedures and possibly a major brain surgery in the near future. He will likely be out of work for however long it’ll take to take care of his medical health, and he will have big big medical bills. We can all empathize with his situation, because we all know if we were out of work for a lengthy period of time, our bank accounts take a big hit.
We all saw Gerry Todd’s post, so I know there are 8,895 Hampton Roads agents who have the ability to donate and make a huge difference in Brandon’s life. If every one of us donated at least $10, we could raise $88,950 for a very deserving family. Whattaya say? How fast can we do this?
Here is a link if you’re unfamiliar with the medical diagnosis.
