Marching Commodores Need New Uniforms
Donation protected
We are raising money for the Eau Gallie High School Marching Commodores Band. We’re trying to replace our uniforms that are 24 years old – that’s right, these uniforms have been used for TWENTY-FOUR years as the funding has not been available to replace them. That means that there are students that could potentially be wearing the same uniforms that their parents wore decades ago. Now it’s our time to raise the money necessary to have our students look as good as they sound.
And they do sound good. Eau Gallie HS band has received superior ratings in marching performance (MPAs) for years, performing shows featuring Queen, the Wizard of Oz in all iterations, and a tribute to Pearl Harbor, along with the spirited stands tunes that get the stands, the cheerleaders and even the football players going. This past season, as the EG Football team headed to the semifinals for the first time in school history, the head coach came to thank the band, recognizing that he saw a difference in the way his team played when the band was present and hyping up the crowd. Even neighborhood locals compliment the band, listening to their dedicated practices starting weeks before school starts.
Eau Gallie HS is located in Brevard County, FL, and is just under the cut-off for Title One. With a large population of economically-disadvantaged students, the band staff for years has made a priority of keeping band fees as low as possible. Money wasn’t to be an obstacle to participate – kids making music was more important.
The cost is approximately $400 per uniform for the traditional style we prefer to have. As we have seen through the years, you need to have more uniforms than band students since different sizes need to be available. The past couple seasons have required “Franken-Uni’s” to accommodate students who didn’t fit into what we still have available.
Currently the band parent boosters have $8365 in our uniform account, with 10% of every fundraiser for the past year going into the account, along with a portion of sales from our concession stand. At this rate, we will be able to raise the necessary funds in twelve years – but given the wear and tear they have already been subject to, they won’t make it that long. Please help us get there sooner!
