The Comfort Pack Fundraiser

I am creating my very first product to help students with disabilities sit for longer periods of time by increasing the comfort of the traditional classroom chair. The Comfort Pack is a chair slipcover that has various unique features that support students' INDIVIDUAL needs! In addition, the Comfort Pack alleviates tensions many students experience due to their disability such as sensory abnormalities and sensitivities as well as physical differences.
Throughout my field experience as a teacher and as an educational researcher, I have seen many students with disabilities suffer from the discomfort they felt when being in their classroom chair. It may seem like a small problem, but a student's response to the discomfort they feel can often lead to disruptive behavior. It is this behavior that has sad consequences for these students, such as not being able to learn in the same environment as their peers without disabilities. This is very unfortunate because it is not the student's intelligence that removes them from the general classroom environment, it is their challenging behaviors. The upside to this situation is that these behaviors can be improved by taking care of the needs students with disabilities have, and that is exactly what I want to do with my product.
My goal is that The Comfort Pack will reduce challenging behaviors that disrupt the classroom enviornment by modifying the classroom chair to ensure it is comfortbale for students. As disruptive behaviors decrease, students with disabilties will have more opportunities to learn in general education classroom where they gain SO much more than they would in a segregated classroom.
During graduate school my research was dedicated to evaluating The Comfort Pack. During this time the slipcover increased seated behavior among all participants as well as decreased distracting behaviors that interrupt student learning! Woo hoo!!
This fundraiser will be used to continue perfecting my product by creating new prototypes with various materials to determine the most effective materials that successfully soothe specific needs of students who are diagnosed with ASD, ADHD, and Down Syndrome.
Thank you again for believing in The. Comfort Pack!
Love always, Mary
