Colorado Wild Horse Fostering Program

Due to the closure of the Canon City, Colorado Wild Horse Processing and Holding Facility, the Herd Management Areas are working with the BLM to find homes for the Colorado Wild Horses.

The SA horses all have committed homes at this time. The 5-9 year olds will be offered for adoption Oct 31, Nov 1, 2025 in Grand Junction. In addition to the above wild horses there are currently 30 young horses in Canon City, 8 weanlings, 12 yearling, 4 two year olds and six 3 year olds. These are being offered in a Fostering Program where approved applicants will be given a horse to gentle. They will have the young wild horses for about 4 1/2 months, then they will return the young wild horses to an adoption event in Grand Junction, Colorado on March 27. The young gentled wild horses will then be offered for adoption.

The Herd Management Areas have agreed to cover the costs of this program. This will include giving the applicant a voucher for hay, farrier and vet care.

We are sure there may be some unexpected costs that we are building an emergency fund for.

Wild Horse Warriors for Sand Wash Basin has committed to donating $1000, but we would like to be able to contribute more. This is an amazing opportunity that we would like to support.
