Colin's prosthetic leg/facings fund
Donation protected
Unfortunately, I am writing this from the hospital still but this is my story so far. On Thursday, February 19, I was at a friends house looking at one of his guns. We are both avid shooters and took all the precautionary steps we had learned to prevent an accident but as my friend picked up the gun for the second time we overlooked that the mag was still in the gun. As he was trying to remove the slide he racked it back, loading the gun and he pulled the trigger. The hollow point from the .40 cal Glock struck me in the upper leg, immediately I went in to "survival mode" and plugged my leg with my fingers and my friend ran for towels. Soon enough my friends little sister had the ambulance on the way and we were off to the hospital. When we got there it was worse than we thought. The bullet had shattered the top half of my tibia and destroyed the junction where my femoral artery splits into three feeding blood to my lower leg. This hospital was not set up to handle an injury such as mine so soon after I was trauma hawked to the closest trauma hospital and immediately brought into surgery trying to save my leg and my life. Finally I was stabilized and in a room with my family explaining everything. It is now April 1st and I am still in the hospital and have undergone roughly 11 surgeries that have all involved removal of different muscles and necrotic (dying) tissue, all trying to save my leg but it came time to amputate. After the amputation my life has been very different and I am still healing from some areas that I had to skin graft over since the swelling will not allow my wounds to close. I still have a long ways to go with getting my swelling down and learning how to walk all over again, never would I have thought I would have to relearn how to walk but here I am. Not only did my family and I have to deal with this situation but I also had to go through this on my 21st birthday which was on February 21st. I have fought through everything so far and I will continue to fight but still there are finances that my parents are trying to overcome so anything that is donated will help tremendously to start getting me back on my "feet" again.
