For over 25 years, Coach Virgil was a treasured part of our Catholic Schools communities. Through chess, he taught our students not only strategy, but also patience, sportsmanship, perseverance, and confidence. More than that, he formed meaningful relationships with our children and left a lasting imprint on so many hearts. We are deeply grateful for the love, time, and dedication he shared.
Many families have asked how they can help. If you wish to donate in Coach Virgil’s loving memory, we are currently raising funds to support Palm Mortuary with funeral and related expenses. Palm Mortuary has provided a burial plan that includes the essential services. The total cost for this plan is $5,000.
We know that Virgil was a proud Navy veteran who received an honorable discharge. He will be laid to rest at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, where veterans are buried. Proceeds will be routed to St. Viator School (who has assumed the immediate expenses) When the school is reimbursed, a scholarship will be created in Coach Virgil’s memory to help all students within the Archdiocese of Las Vegas Catholic Schools access funding to participate in Chess Club and/or compete in our annual All Catholic Schools chess tournament. We will keep our families and staff apprised as arrangements for Coach Virgil’s funeral and Memorial Mass are finalized. Thank you for the outpouring of prayers, kindness, and support during this difficult time. May Coach Virgil rest in the peace of Christ.
