Urgent Help Needed: Saving Our Home and Restoring Life-Saving Electricity
My name is Matthew, and I am reaching out with an urgent plea for help for my disabled wife and myself. We are facing a critical situation that threatens our home and, more immediately, our health and very lives. We are currently in dire need of assistance to cover essential bills and prevent further catastrophe.
For years, my wife and I have battled severe health issues. My wife lives with major mental illness and significant physical disabilities, requiring constant care and support. As for myself, I am 43 years old and have been unable to work since 2019 due to a complex array of medical problems. These include major cardiac issues, Type 2 Diabetes, sciatica, neuropathy, bulged discs, severe obstructed sleep apnea, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, and major depression and anxiety. Most recently, I am an inpatient in the hospital, having just undergone my second cardioversion today due to a recurrence of AFIB. Adding to this immense burden is the permanent, excruciating pain I endure 24/7 from a pilonidal cyst removal surgery that went wrong, making it nearly impossible to sit comfortably.
Since 2019, our family has been surviving solely on my wife's SSI check. This income, unfortunately, does not cover our basic needs or essential bills like electricity, water, and food. Our bills have been steadily piling up, creating an unbearable strain. In late 2020, after my mother tragically passed away from COVID-19 on Christmas, I received a small inheritance. Combined with my wife's SSI back pay, we used every single cent to purchase the cheapest home we could find, even overdrafting our bank account in the process. Our hope was that with my wife's SSI and my pending disability approval, we could manage our expenses more effectively than renting. I applied for disability at the beginning of 2021, but the process has been fraught with delays. My case was unfortunately stuck in limbo after the case worker retired, severely prolonging the approval process. I just had my court hearing, and we anticipate receiving much-needed disability funds in the next few months, but we cannot wait that long.
Any support you can provide will help us get through this urgent and difficult time. We are deeply grateful for any help you can give.
