How does one begin to ask friends, family, and strangers for help, but Carter deserves every chance.

 

 

Lets start from the beginning. Luna had already given birth to 4 strong, healthy pups. Then came carter who wasn’t suppose to make it. I was told not to be surprise if we lost this next one. Carter came out in a sac with another puppy with their umbilical cord attached, his brother was dead and decaying causing carter to have a massive infection among other problems we would later discover.

 

 

Carter struggled from his first day, he had fluid in his lungs and started medication and treatment for pneumonia. He was the smallest puppy in the litter, only weighing 4oz, and seemed to have real trouble nursing with the other pups. After a few hours we made the decision to pull him from the litter and tube feed him. Carter was cared for around the clock, at first tube feeding once an hour, medications and sub Q fluids daily. Attempts were made to introduce him back with the others and every time with in a day he was weak and struggling again, we made an appointment with our vet to see if anything could be done and at that time nothin was discovered. So we continued on with his around the clock care.

 

Carter began to grow, and turn in to amazing handsome boy! He has such a positive outlook on life, and was a joy despite all the work that went in to his survival. He has issues when attempting to transition from tube feeding to solid food and was finally large enough for an in-depth exam where we finally discovered the problem. Carter had a cleft palate! When we realized what was going on he was around 5 weeks of age.

 

 

 

We took him to see a oral surgeon specialist in the following weeks who guaranteed his full recovery!! We were extremely happy to have heard this! The doctors wants to wait to do his surgery until after teething to be sure only one surgery will be needed to correct the problem. The next step is to gather the much needed funds to ensure carter can receive proper care and live a long and healthy life. They have quoted us close to $8000 total cost for his surgery and recovery care.
