Memory of Jay “Hilbo” Hilberts ‘84
Donation protected
Hello Class of '84!
My name is Corey Chapman and I am the current Consul of the Mu chapter. As you all know, we have the greatest house on campus. Unfortunately, we do not utilize it to its fullest potential. For the last two years I have had little success in trying to get the alumni asociation to help fund a re-vamp of the basement. After talking with Todd Loehnert this past weekend at our Dads Weekend event, the idea arose that the renovations to the basement could be donated by the class of '84 in memory John "Jay" Scanlon Hilberts. After getting some positive feedback from Stephen Tortolani and Tim McCahan about the idea, we decied to move forward and this account was created.
Below is the exact plan that was presented to the alumni association. In short, this money will be used directly to make improvements to the basment in the house, mostly electronics, but also some aesthetics. Money raised will be spent on putting a new flatscreen in the basment, replacing the broken 12 year old prjection TV, buying a gaming system with games, a sound system, and some new chairs and furniture.
1. Xbox: 399
2. 3 Controllers: 150
3. Games: total 190
A. Fifa Soccer: 40
B. NHL Hockey: 40
C. Call of Duty: 60
D. Halo: 50
4. Sound System: 300
5. 75’in 4K Ultra High Definition TV: 2500
6. Wall mount 100
7. New furniture: ~1300
TOTAL: 5000$
I believe that if it’s worth doing at all, it’s worth doing right. We have a huge wall in the basement where we can put a very large TV, either mounted on the wall or standing on a piece of furniture. Having the biggest TV on campus would go a long way in getting guys to use the basement daily. We have the greatest house on campus and it's a travesty that things have gotten as bad as they have with the use of the house. Granted we can no longer live in the house, but that does not mean it should become some museum that we hardly use. The house should be a place that we have a connection to like all of you do, a place that we can enjoy. All in all this project will be expensive but if done right it will absolutely change the basement for many years to come. With this donation a permanent plaque will be mounted on the wall in the basment stating the donation made by the class of '84 in memory of Jay “Hilbo” Hilberts ‘84”. All the instalation of electronics would be done by myself with the exception of the wall mount which would be put in by Denison Physical Plant workers. If you have any specific questions feel free to give me a call or email me.
