AUGUST 15, 2025 – CINDY WAS DENIED BACK SURGERY!

Dear Friends & Family,

First, from the bottom of our hearts — thank you. Your prayers, love, and generosity have carried Cindy and me through these last four years since her devastating back injury. We feel your care, faith and love every single day.

An Update from This Month:

Cindy now spends most of her days in bed, enduring constant pain and growing weakness — yet she never complains! Her courage humbles me daily. Despite the loss of so much quality of life, she clings to God’s promises: He knows her need, He has not forgotten her, He loves her deeply, and yes, He will accomplish His perfect purpose for her. Jeremiah 29:11 has been especially comforting.

So on August 4, we went into Cindy’s Orthopedic Surgeon appointment praying for good news. The recent DEXA scan showed such significant bone density growth, and we hoped this improvement would make her eligible for surgery.

But our hearts sank when her surgeon told us he would not offer back surgery! The combination of needing to realign her displaced L4 vertebra, and the surgeon dismissing Cindy's improved bone density spinal score as arthritis, made the risk too great for his surgical specialties. How disappointing!! Over the following 10 days, two other referred neurosurgeons confirmed the same.

We were crushed — but God gently lifted our eyes back to Him. While our hearts hurt, our trust remains firm, and our souls are at peace as we enter this new phase of the journey.

A New Opportunity:

Cindy has now been referred to a highly specialized Orthopedic surgeon — one who focuses on repairing spinal “deformities” (like Cindy’s displaced L4) and works extensively with patients over 65 who have medical complications (like osteoporosis).

Cindy will see this new specialist on September 2. We are asking for urgent prayer that this doctor will be able — and willing — to help Cindy!

Why We’re Asking for Your Help Again:

Thanks to the kindness of a dear friend and family members, our household expenses are covered through next month.

But Cindy’s medical needs remain urgent and costly.

Even after insurance, we face over $5,000 in growing medical expenses over the next few months, and we have no credit to lean on. This amount includes an outstanding hospital bill, overdue clinic bills, new dental work needed, Cindy’s necessary meds, supplements and supplies, specialist visits, travel to Charleston for Cindy's double-vision eye surgery evaluation, an EEG to discover the reason for fainting seizures, nerve blocks and ablation formerly prescribed to relieve Cindy’s pain and restore mobility, that will help with or without surgery.

Additional procedures, including my MRI and cataract surgery, Cindy's possible eye surgery, and — God willing — Cindy’s back surgery, will only add to the costs.
