I created this GoFundMe for my cousin, Sharon Blozen Lassiter. Her husband, Chuck Lassiter, never woke up this morning, and I wonder how she will go on without him. I spent a short time with Chuck, and family, while they were avoiding a hurricane here in Florida many years ago. I didn’t know him well, but what I do know is that he was loved entirely by Sharon. My impression was that Chuck was her Calm in this Storm, we call Life. He was supportive through the ups and downs, always pitching in when needed. Chuck worked hard and had a talent for building, creating, and working with his hands. He was patient, and there wasn’t anything they wouldn’t do for each other.

He was an amazing Papa to Gregory, who must be heartbroken. From across the miles, I’ve watched Greg grow through posted pictures and videos on Facebook and heard his little voice mature via video chats with his cousins, always with his Grandma and Papa close by. Chuck always took the time for his grandson. From soccer games to matching Batman jammies and T-shirts, he was always there for Greg, making those precious moments together count.

Sharon and Chuck had 20 years together as a couple and would have celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary this October. Twenty years sounds like a long time, but we all know how life flashes past in the blink of an eye. Sharon and Greg lost him too soon, just 60 years young, a week before his birthday. My heart aches for the experiences they won’t share over the next 20 years.

This tragedy hit their family especially hard because Chuck did not have life insurance. Sharon is the beneficiary of this fundraiser. I hope we can raise more than the modest goal; these funds will help cover their immediate needs and beyond.

Chuck's death is still surreal for Sharon and many other friends and family, but knowing he did not suffer may help ease some of the heartache. Chuck's memorial will be held at Grace Christian Fellowship on Oct 15th at 11 am.
